Guadalupe Mountains National Park
With just over 600 visitors per day (averaged), Guadalupe Mountains National Park can be a very quiet and secluded experience. Located at the Texas/New Mexico border, it lies in stark contrast to the desert around it, offering dramatic cliffs, rugged trails, and huge sky views.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park is also home to Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas at 8,751ft. Want to have a challenging day? Hike the 8.4 mile Guadalupe Peak Trail, which will give you a vertical gain of over 3,000ft! Canyons? Head over to McKittrick Canyon. Dunes? Salt Basin Dunes. Overland routes? While not part of the national park itself, there are plenty in the area.
Want to explore the rest of the area? Visit Carlsbad Caverns National Park less than 30 minutes away, or head west to White Sands National Park, or south to Big Bend National Park, both of which are less than 4 hours away.
