Craters of the Moon National Monument
Idaho is a lot closer to visit than the Moon, and Craters of the Moon National Monument can make you feel like you’re in a lunar landscape. Black lava flows, cinder cones, and sagebrush in every direction make for a unique appearance, while being accessible at the same time.
You’ll find Craters of the Moon National Monument just a few hours east of Boise, ID and about 3 hours west of Grand Teton National Park or Yellowstone National Park. First stop when you arrive is the loop road! This will allow you to check out the Splatter Cones and ancient lava flows.
