Great Sand Dunes National Park

What if we told you that there are sand dunes in Colorado? The story behind Great Sand Dunes National Park, and how it has formed is fascinating. We won’t spoil the details here, but the visitor’s center has some great information on it. Located in Southern/Central Colorado, arriving at Great Sand Dunes National Park includes views that don’t align with typical “Colorado” views, but are great nonetheless.

The warmer months are definitely the time to visit if you want to get some off-pavement driving in though! The Medano Pass Road will give your vehicle the chance to traverse sand, rocks, and water crossings and there are vehicle requirements to traverse this section.

Even without traversing Medano Pass Road, there are plenty of things to do including hiking, fishing, and of course, sand boarding on the dunes! We would love to fit Great Sand Dunes National Park into your next trip, just give us a shout!
